Description: This is a photographic and narrative view of shipping that passed through the canal in the first half of the twentieth century, opening with a concise history of the canal itself. The black & white photos were taken by an employee/photographer from advantageous viewpoints along the route. Due to the land elevation they give an almost aerial view of the ships. The book is divided into three chapters devoted to freighters, passenger liners, and warships. Along with each photo is a brief history of the vessel shown.
