Description: German naval artillery development before and during the WW2 is closely interacting with the Versailles Treaty of 1919. The peace treaty enforced upon Germany by the victorious Allies was deemed unacceptable by most Germans from the outset. Almost from the day after sealing it, ways were invented to circumvent it — the best example is the history of the anti-aircraft artillery developed abroad. Many foreign companies were more than eager to cooperate with Germany in research and development of these, soaking-up the German expertise and know-how accumulated during long years of experimenting, but re-frying from actual production for the Weimar Republic. The Germans were convinced that sooner or later the Treaty would be lifted some way or another, and the issue of modern artillery designs for both land service and navy would become crucial
